Nickel bis(dimethylglyoximate) is the coordination complex with the formula Ni[ONC(CH3)C(CH3)NOH]2. The compound is a bright red solid. It achieved prominence for its use in the qualitative analysis of nickel.[1]

Structure[edit]

Nickel(II) is square planar.[2] It is surrounded by two equivalents of the conjugate base (dmgH) of dimethylglyoxime (dmgH2). The pair of organic ligands are joined through hydrogen bonds to give a macrocyclic ligand. The complex is distinctively colored and insoluble leading to its use as a chelating agent in the gravimetric analysis of nickel.

What I need to figure out:

Ni Dmg 2 2 Nomenclature List

We did a gravimetric analysis lab and I have masses for the DMG-Ni complexes that we recovered but I need to find the percent nickel in each sample.
Relevant Equations: I believe you take the mass of the DMG-Ni complex sample and multiply that by the mass ratio of Ni2+ over the FW of DMG. Then divide the result by the mass of the sample and multiply by 100%.

The Attempt at a Solution

Ni Dmg 2 2 Nomenclature Pdf

I did what I layed out above but I get the same percentage Ni2+ for each sample which doesn't make sense so I must have gone wrong. Any help would be great![/B]
