  1. When attempting to install Office 2011 or 2016, the installation is stuck at verifying the installation file. This is often caused by a security setting within OS X. Ensure that OS X is up to date before attempting any of the solutions below.
  2. Apr 07, 2016  Again, this is a problem with OSX, not VirtualBox. A quick search for 'mac stuck at verifying' will convince you. Original post follows. I've downloaded VirtualBox-5.0.16-105871-OSX.dmg and verified that the sha-256 checksum is correct. The dmg mounts on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) running OS X 10.11.4.

There seems to be a problem with OSX 10.11.x when verifying/opening files and not just the VirtualBox.pkg. The problem is not seen by all users, but it is affecting a lot of them. There is no known permanent solution or explanation to the problem so far. There are a couple of workarounds though that you can try (listed in the order that you should try them):

I've downloaded VirtualBox-5.0.16-105871-OSX.dmg and verified that the sha-256 checksum is correct.
The dmg mounts on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) running OS X 10.11.4
When I try to run the installer, VirtualBox.pkg, either directly from the mounted dmg, or by copying it to the internal drive, it hangs at Verifying 'VirtualBox.pkg'.. for at least well over an hour. The progress bar does not advance.

I have 'admin' privileges on the machine. I have been able to install other packages without issue.
There is nothing that I see in Console that indicates the cause of the issue.
The thread 'Installing VirtualBox on El Capitan' (I can't post URLs) is an apparently different issue, and does not indicate a solution.
